How can our physical therapists help with headaches?
Just like adults, children can experience various types of headaches and can be fairly common among children and teens. If the head pain persists, becomes more frequent, or is accompanied by symptoms such as waking up at night, flashes of light, sensitivity to light and sound, vision changes, muscle weakness, dizziness, or vomiting, it is important your child be evaluated by a physician.
Once cleared by your child’s pediatrician, physical therapy can assist with the treatment of certain types of headaches such as tension, cervicogenic, or oculomotor headaches. During your child’s physical therapy session, they may receive:
Manual therapy
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization
Therapeutic exercise
Postural training
Oculomotor training
