What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social and communication challenges, as well as global developmental delay. ASD affects people in different ways and can range from mild to severe. Children with ASD may experience the following set of symptoms: difficulties with social interaction, sensory processing, gross and fine motor coordination/development, and muscle tone abnormalities.

How do the OTs at MPPT assist individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder?

The Occupational Therapists at MPPT are specifically trained in Sensory Processing Difficulties in order to assist children with emotional regulation, transitions, environmental adaptability, and performance of activities of daily living such as washing hair or feeding. These activities, along with many others, have the potential to become extremely difficult for children that are experiencing hypersensitivities. Our OTs also provide assistance with social skill development, gross and fine motor development, school performance, participation in daily activities, feeding, etc.
